Have you ever watched a music video that has nothing to do with the song? What about a song that is (very literally) about the video?
This video is funny (at least to me). Someone took a music video (here’s the originalby A-Ha), then used the original music with new lyrics that describe what is taking place in the video:
Ah… The 80′s. Who owned the top selling song? Michael Jackson? …(no) George Michael? …(nope) Prince? …(nah) Springsteen? …(nup) Must be Madonna? …(nooo). How about Tina Turner? …(yes!). What’s love got to do with it? Apparently… everything!

Billboard utilized a complex formula (you can read about it at their site) to weigh songs from different eras to ensure all would get a fair shake. Although The Twist only spent three weeks at the top of the charts, it did so twice “in two separate runs more than a year apart” – the only song to be number one on two different chart runs.
Although the historic Billboard Hot 100has (obviously) 100 songs listed, I’ll only list the top ten (click on top ten to see videos of the songs):
The Twist by Chubby Checker
Smooth by Santana, featuring Rob Thomas
Mack The Knife by Bobby Darin
How Do I Live? by LeAnn Rimes
Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix) by Los Del Rio (They’ve got to be kidding…)
Physical by Olivia Newton-John (um… it was the early 80′s)
You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone (…ok, now it’s getting ridiculous)
Hey Jude by The Beatles (…much better)
We Belong Together by Mariah Carey (the only song from this millenia on the top ten)
I am embarrassed. I forgot all about Leaving Evangeline’s“Cop-boy” story as one of the highlights of August. I also left off Froggiewoogie’s (at Tales From My Planet) classic videos. In an effort to make it up to both of them, here is the original version of YMCA, featuring (probably a different) Cop-boy.
