  4. Wycliffe and the Scapegoat by W.J. Burley
Every year, at Halloween, high on the Cornish cliffs, a life-sized effigy of a man is strapped to a blazing wheel and run into the sea — a re-enactment of a hideous old legend where the figure had been a living sacrifice. And now Jonathan Riddle, well-known and respected local builder and undertaker, has disappeared — and it seems all too likely that his corpse has gone the way of the historic ‘scapegoat’. As Chief Superintendent Wycliffe begins to investigate, more and more unpleasant facts emerge until he is left with an incredible, and seemingly impossible, solution.
  5. Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing by Ann Campbell

  1. What a fun list! Maybe I’ll show it to my book club to see if they want to get in the “spirit” with a Halloween book!

I’ve read several of these. I liked the Hillerman and Christie books.

  4. I searched Amazon for a good, new, Halloween novel and came upon one by author Skip Stover titled, The Ghost of Governor’s Bridge. I ordered it and got it yesterday. I finished reading it today. You can not put this book down after getting past the 3rd page. What a great story. I researched it on-line and found Stover is having a trailer filmed for the story. This is the first book of his, I read, and it won’t be my last. The best part is he puts romance into a chiller suspensful novel and comes with a great ending. Don’t take my word. Read the first 3 pages and form an opinion. I have never heard of him until yesterday, but he has several books out. Don’t take my word. Look him up. Have a great Halloween.

  5. The Sleeping Beauty Mystery, a 99 Cents bargain book, a novella, on amazon for Kindle. Mystery, ghosts, appealing romance and smalltown characters that will entertain you!
