If you can… (how to survive in a dog eat dog world)

I found this (here) the other day and it spoke to me in a way my dog couldn’t:

If You Can..

If you can start the day without caffeine;
If you can get going without pep pills;
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains;
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles;
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it;
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time;
If you can forgive a friend’s lack of consideration;
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you when,
through no fault of your own, something goes wrong;
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment;
If you can ignore a friend’s limited education and never correct him;
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend;
If you can face the world without lies and deceit;
If you can conquer tension without medical help;
If you can relax without liquor;
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs;
If you can honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice
against creed or color, religion or politics; then, my friend, you are
almost as good as your dog.

    That is not only sweet, it’s the truth. I have always had such an affinity for animals…dogs especially. I can trust them to love me no matter if I don’t brush my hair, or gain ten pounds…I can trust them to be just as excited to see me if 5 minutes have passed…or 5 days. The unconditional nature of their loyalty and adoration surpasses that of any human I’ve ever known.

    I like dogs. Can you tell?

    All true… and dogs don’t talk back. We had dogs for years before having kids (we were married almost 14 years before our first kid) and never had a moment of trouble – although they did occasionally leave their calling card on the carpet, but then… so have our kids.

  2. oy vey! This is fantastic!

    It’s hard work to not like a dog.

  3. I love dogs. This is also a nice list for their human friends 🙂 Who needs New Year’s resolutions when you can just use this?

    It seems easy, no?
