Life as a Coffee

I found this at Amazing Posts and found it interesting.  I hope you do too:

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university Professor.

Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the Prof. went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the Prof. said “If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. That all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.”

So friend, don’t let the cups drive you…enjoy the coffee instead.

  1. Can I have a few dops of milk with it … and where’s the damn sugar … !!!?

Ah… thinking inside the cup. Good, very good.
Thanks for the visit and comment.

  2. I’ll have INSTANT if you don’t mind. 🙂

Life in a hurry? I’ll send a virtual cup.

  3. This was great! I’m trying to get away from the fancy cups, but it’s so difficult.

I’m trying to simplify myself. It’s getting easier as I get older.

  4. This is a very cool story. I take my coffee black and always in a mug I picked up on some vacation. That way one day I can visit Los Angeles and the next, Italy.

Go to Epcot. We had lunch in Italy and dinner in France on one of our anniversaries.

  5. All my coffee mugs hail from Wal*Mart!

That’s great. All of ours are gifts, so we get to remember our friends when we drink coffee (or tea).
Thanks for the visit and comment.

  6. All we have are Nascar mugs and my one cute mug that Tami gave me as a gift for Christmas last year! Also, what does it say about me if I only drink hot chocolate??? :o)

    Great analogy! Makes you think!

Although I can’t read coffee grounds (or in your case – miniature marshmallows) like tea leaves, I’m assuming the hot chocolate means you like things that are sweeter than coffee? Either way, the key is that you are thinking inside the mug…

  7. It ain’t easy 🙂

As Tom Hanks’ character (in A League of Their Own) said, “It’s not supposed to be easy.”

  8. My favorite coffee cup is an old chipped diner mug that I totally stole from my favorite diner in my hometown. So what does that say about me and my stolen coffee identity?!

Down to earth, comfort – (for about 3-5 years).
